Oh yea, I take lots of photos. This is the spot it's going in, obviously not staying on that table but for now it's going to. I need to start cleanup now. Good thing I didn't get any bigger, I don't have an inch to spare in this spot.
And it leaks, ugh. I put a gallon in it last night just out to see if anything would and sure enough after work my table had a little spot of water. The frame has a tiny piece missing underneath about the size of a pencil lead and that is where it is dripping from, not sure how the water is getting into the frame though. After cleanup it looked as if someone has tried a reseal before, the silicone on the bottom doesn't look factory. So I was highly considering a reseal anyway since it's quite a bit of water. I guess now I don't have a choice. I looked it up yesterday and it doesn't look to hard so we'll see.
I had been looking for a while too and I wanted a 6ft 125+. So I jumped on the deal, as long as the reseal doesn't cost me to much I don't mind the time or work involved. I just hope all it needs is a reseal. As I said I was kind of leaning towards doing it anyway.
Great pickup!! I got a 125g from GlassCages, don't regret it one bit! Hint: if you do sand the surface of that plastic "wood," it'll rough it up enough to hold paint (artist and sometime antique restorer). And painting the back (go for black, acrylic paint, not oil-based enamel)--you'll be glad you did as it makes a huge difference. Reseal that baby REALLY good, too. It's worth the hassle up front compared to the horror later. And coming from someone who owns a full-size pickup, a little car that gets good mileage like that AND holds a 6 foot tank--champion!!
Thanks for the input, I was kind of thinking the same on the frame also. I was planning on using Krylon Fusion for plastic, the back I had no idea. I'll grab some Acrylic next time I am at lowes thanks for the tip. I am researching the reseal process now, it doesn't seem to hard or to costly and the peace of mind is worth it as is fixing the leak. As for the car, thanks for the compliment. I've also fit a 42" TV in the box in it, a 75g tank and stand among other large loads. It helps that I've removed the back seats though.
And more bad news, I scraped back some of the silicone and found a chip missing behind one of the seams. It's not terribly huge but there is a chip missing, it's on the front pane at the very bottom near the corner. I assume it's not safe to used at this point? I'd guess I would have to at the very least replace the front pane and completely rebuild it? Or is it not a huge concern as long as the silicone seals it? I'm so freaking bummed.
