Do you keep your slider and softshell together?

I have never kept softshells but find them very aggressive and have seen local canal softshell attack other softshells and chase them away.
Softys are very territorial, actually what you have seen is only a midly agressive one as north american Apalone like the florida softy are relatively non agressive when compared with asian species like Pelodiscus which have a horrible temper toards other turts

Definately not. Not only are softshells highly aggressive, but they are also very delicate. Scratches or bites (accidental or not) could very easily cause severe damage to a softy, or lead to a funal infection which they are prone to anyway.

Their delicate nature explains why they are so aggro, they have no strong shell to hide in when threatened, so they just go all out and bite like mad.

Mudpuppies would be easily eaten I would think. It's certainly not fair to keep mudpuppies with such a predator.

As some of you have said he is going to get really big and is pretty mean so this tank is just his home until he gets bigger, then we have other plans for him. I didn't know there were different kinds of softshell turtles so I am going to post pictures so maybe we can get an ID. If you know what he is also please tell me how aggressive he is compared to the other types. He has also started to use his piece of bogwood to hang out on and catch some air so I'm happy about that. I think he just didn't know where it was. I haven't noticed him burying himself at all. He will dig holes every now and again but that's about it. We are using a fairly fine rock substrate. Thanks again everyone!

Pictures: Hopefully someone can ID : )
