I have not heard a bad thing about these particular filters. Sure they don't have the track record but if you are on a budget you can get the older model with sponges, bio balls, ceramic rings and charcoal for $100 shipped. Not bad for a big 530 gph canister. Sure I would like to get a eheim or fluval but with 2 kids and a wife not working these buget choices are nice.

Same here about being on a budget with 3 kids and a wife here. I have the HW-303A and it's a really good canister filter. I do like that little built in handle on the newer ones. Much built like one of those Marineland C-Series canister filters. I will buy one of those HW-404 like yours here in the near future. These are awesome filters that will not break your wallet like the way over priced ones plus works very well and never heard anything bad about them here either.

Sounds like a good filter and I'm going to research it more. Thanks for the heads up. I bought a Magnum 350 for my 100 g tank but I'm not very impressed with it.

I have an older Magnum 350 but way too many issue problems with these. Not a good filter for bio filtration and is a mess to work the carbon basket. Only thing I would have to say about the magnum 350 is it's power but other then that its a mess. Now Marineland finally caught up with the rest of the top companies and brought out their C-series which I think these SUN SUN's a very much alike while their older ones are much like the JBJ Reaction's but then again they all are much alike in many ways, features, and looks.

been trying to research these filters and it seems on ebay all the new models have the UV sterlizer. I am trying to look for model that is 375 gph WITHOUT the sterlizer and cant find any? Is ebay the only place that sells these filters?

wouldnt it be cheaper in the long run to get a higher priced filter that ran on 35-40 wpg compared to 50wpg added to your electric bill thats going to be running 24/7 365 days a year? I mean to me saving for a better power efficiency will save you in the long run. even if its 10 cents an hour that 10 cents adds up very quickly

I was thinking the exact same thing. For instance the FX5 may cost $200-$230 compared to a comparable model SUNSUN canister that costs $80-$100. But they both run roughly 50 watts but the FX5 has nearly twice the GPH as the SUNSUN, approx 900 gph vs. approx 500 gph.
