Anyone have one of these? I know it's the "cheap Wal-Mart brand" but does anyone like them? It was free so i'm gonna use it, I just filled up the reservoir to make sure it doesn't leak then I guess i'm gonna toss it on the new 75g when I set it up along w/ another HOB rated to 50g.

Any feedback, input, opinions, comments, concerns?

If it doesn't leak you should be okay, The old style were sealed or one piece which was better. The new ones use a motor that has an O ring seal that will leak eventually. At least the ones I have seen always leak.

exactly why I tested it 1st :D I might silicone it in place before using it, what do u think of that idea?

I'd never buy one, but for a freebie, sure!

Pretty flimsy thin sponge intended for the bio media and the mechanical media pads don't last long on them.

Maybe pop the top off and just use it for bog plants/pothos if the media it came with is crappy?
I can always buy ceramic rings and fill it remaining part of the reservoir w/ them OR just buy the Tetra brand sponges which seem like they would fit almost perfectly in the plastic frame intended for the default media......I do like the plants idea though - I already have a Penguin 170 w/ 5 bamboo plants growing out of it.

Maybbe fill it 1/2-way w/ ceramic rings and the other top half for the Bamboo

Just talked to my fishing-buddy and he's had one for 10 years and he said iit's never leaked

Funny you ask I have an old one I just dug out because of this thread. I just silicon the motor block into the filter housing. I will let you know what happens. I did it yesterday so Its curing now.

Okay so I silicone the motor into the filter and let it cure. I have it running now and so far so good. No leaks, Dont know if it will last but seems okay now.
I used GE I to do this BTW.

48 hour cure time sounds about right......that what the directions say? IDK, i was using Loc-tite for all these years not knowing it's not intended for tanks over 30 gallons, so i'm about to go try and cop a tube of that stuff P predatorkeeper87 was telling me about that can hold a Mac truck to the ceiling lol
