I would go for a pair of neets (Neetroplus nematopus) and some tiger barbs or silver dollars. Neets are much less common than most other cichlids but their personalities are awesome.
african cichlids are nice and you could keep a few in a tank that size vs one decent sized sa/ca. The african's are also a little better colored. A pecock tank would be very nice
what part of Florida are you in? I'm in south Florida (Palm Beach area) and I see Discus available regularly . . . you could also try online, some of the Discus dealers in south Florida could ship to you pretty quickly
im in tampa just a few hours away i think i like the neet idea that could work out well wat makes a good tetra or babrb tho would congo tetras look good
congo tetra's are awesome, and are robust enough to deal with a jack dempsey. I'm not much of a cichlid guy, mostly natives for me, but what about a managuense or a firemouth?
mang would be a bit big i believe and never been a big firemouth fan its prolly gunna get a few geos or some clown loaces for the bottom and sevrum f somekind for mid water action at least for this 5 mins lol
