Hey guys!

So i just got myself my first freshwater "eel", i got a marbled swamp eel. Right now its in my 20g because the lil guy is super skiny and measures about 4". Then its going into the 90g once it hits about 8-10", then finally to the 180g i just bought.

So a few questions. Has anybody ever pelet trained one, i checked online and all i see is "predator, meaty foods, etc". Also in the 20g right now there is gravel, not sand (in the 90 and 180 its sand) but the eel dug himself in regardless, is this ok? Finally how often do these things emerge, becuase since he dug himself in i have yet to see it again, i taped down every possible hole of the tank including the filter so i doubt it got out.

Il try n hopefully get a pic of him in action at some point. Any name ideas?

Thanks all :)

Mine never took to eating pellets. His diet consisted of live gut-loaded minnows, earthworms, gut-loaded crayfish, raw shrimp, and cut fish. Mine was in a bare-bottom tank so, I can't offer any experiences of burying themselves. I've had smaller specimens (1-3ft) that didn't bury themselves so, it may be a temporary survival-instinct inherent in the young elvers.

Here's my 4 footer:

The swamp eel I got from Amazing-Fish took anything that remotely smelled like food. I tried pieces of shrimp, tilapia, NLS, and massivore and it took all of them.

Thabks for the tips :).
Oddball u have a true beast, the face reminds me of a lungfish.

Heres the tail ebd of mine, best i could snap for now without tossing the tank around.
