Great looking little Oscar!, that is awesome you gave him a great place to hide also I am not sure what you are wanting to put with him eventually but I would get him a buddy to swim around with , it will help him feel even more secure when you can ... I got my little one with 2 small jack dempseys and a senegal ( spelling) birchir and all of them are getting along great... I have them in a 20 gallon long growing out of course going to be puting them in a 55 gallon next and then on to my 350 gallon with my bigger female oscar and catfish and 2 angel fish that my 12 inch oscar will actually defend ... it is weird I know but she does lol .

just added ya! someone told me once to "just toss a goldfish or two in there with it, and once he's torn them up you know hes comfortable!" but sounds like pretty crappy advice to me.

would a small pleco be ok? id prefer something a little more active like shrimp or a goldfish of some sort, but im afraid Otis (what i named the oscar :D ) will tear it to pieces.

lol , you can feed them feeders but it is best to quaritine them for at least a week before hand that way you can observe them and make sure they are healthy and make sure you feed those a good quality food that way all the good nutirents will get into them ... and then all that goodness will go into your oscar ;)

If you want to feed feeders I would choose guppies ... little easier for him to swallow.

a pleco should be fine in there , I have a pleco in all my tanks except the one with the birchir ...

I would add a different kind of sa cichlid myself .

glass shimps are a great little snack also but they can go through alot of those lol at 25 cents a peice ( here anyway) , it would be better off with guppies... but I do suggest to QT them first... before I new better I fed sick fish before and caused my cichlids to get sick .

Got it, I may go get a pleco or another cichlid tomorrow or the next day.

He moves about every 30 minutes to a new spot and continues to pout. I really hope he comes out of this soon.. Is there anything I can do for him?

Until then...

I would not worry about it pouting. My big Oscars do this sometimes just because I walked past the tank without giving them any attention. Also there is nothing Oscars like more than eating. Let it settle in and it will be eating you out of house and home soon. If you have the room, I have had the best luck with Oscars when I get two of them the same size and grow them up together.

alright, he's moving around a little now. is it safe to drop in a pellet or two and see what he does?

Oscars do that , i dont know why but they just look like theres either dying or sleeping or something but its normal.
