Hi,

if I were you, I would not use such a fine sand!
That's not good for the rays gills, your bottom will possibly begin to rott because of the no longer possible throughflow and you'll permanently find it in your filter system :(

Regards
Stefan

Your setup looks fantastic and the tankmates compliment the rays very nicely. You can keep the sand the way you have it, it will just be very high maintenance while the pups are smaller. Your going to have to stir the sand alot especially around anything resting on the bottom. Like stefen said being light like that may also give you filter problems especially when they get bigger and excited they will fling the sand all over the whole tank. It looks great it's just a high maintenance sand.

Its not really that light, i just didnt filter it through properly, so all the little fine stuff is flying around and getting removed by the filters. there is a couple people in edmonton who have the same stuff and in the one case its been working well for her retics for years. what are a couple symptoms of bottom rot?

You'll first notice disc rot as a discoloration around the egdes of the disc and then the disc just seems to get ragged and looks rotten.
I do like the looks of that sand I'm just a little lazier and keep a thiner layer for pups so they stir the sand instead of me.
