Just installed my new toy.. Aquatop CF-500UV

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I didn't have that big of a problem priming it. Burping it took a couple tries but priming was effortless. As for the sun sun comment, this one actually has handles on the trays so maybe that is something the changed recently.

No I have handles on the trays, just no handles on the filter itself. If I could get it to prime it wouldnt be so bad, but I have to fill it with water to restart it, and its really heavy lol.

All in all though, if I got only 5 years out of it, it would still be worth the money

It's very similar to my Marineland Canister C-530, I call it the beast.

No idea if it's true or not but I read Aquatop makes the filter for Marineland..

Ok, that makes more sense. :D

i don't know of any large filter you don't have to fill with water to get it to prime that is just common sense. I have had a sunsun 404 for nearly a year now and have had no problems

I might end up sending it back. The filter has become fairly loud. The motor now "hums" and can be heard from over 10 ft away. It's so annoying that it kept me up last night and the aquarium is in the other room. Filtration wise it's doing a great job, but the noise is killing me.

Which is part of the reason some handles would've been nice. I can fill my xp's 1/3 to half full and expel the air once attached , but even if I did have to fill it all the way, they have handles. This filter, I literally have to fill, which I'm not used to at all. Guess I don't have any other large canister besides my xp3's and they really aren't that large :)

that really sux. Send it back for sure. It shouldn't make noise like that so soon ime

im in the same situation and also want to know the answer to this

I use Hydor Koralia Magnums to keep things stirred up. I dont have sand atm but did at one time and didnt have an issue with anything sitting on top of the sand.

An update on this filter. It was a rock causing the noise. Since I took it apart it's been very silent. I'm very pleased with this filter and the UV light definitely helps with green water. Planning on getting another one in the near future.
