Update on this:
I've been doing lots of close monitoring and testing before, during, and after feedings. The tank hasn't spiked the levels at all. Even after heavy feedings, which I did with the pythons at the ready for emergency drainings.
My newest theory is simply that something was wrong with the shrimp I fed, or the fish choked. This same fish had often appeared to have his jaw locked open, so perhaps he had something amiss.
On the plus side, the other fish are very much enjoying the recent week of powerfeeding.
