Just lost my shovelnose

This is what mine looked like a little over a month ago - he's now grown into his stripes a bit more and put on a couple of inches.

I don't think he looks that silvery either.


I'm sure its not a Lima though, they have a pretty pronounced stripe down the side as opposed to tiger stripes.

Its possible its an RTCxTSN cross, but to me it looks a lot more like a TSN as opposed to a Lima.

Speshul, I plan on getting another one. What were you feeding yours? Mine would only eat thawed krill.

I got mine from someone on craigslist that was only feeding live and earthworms. I mostly fed worms in the begging. I tried beefheart once and when he took that, I thought I'd try shrimp. He didn't take the shrimp at first. I actually tied a worm around it at one point but the worm would always get lose. Over time, he'd just grab the shrimp along with the worm.

Now he gets raw frozen shrimp, frozen tilapia fillets, worms and krill on occasion. I cut everything up into smaller pieces though. He doesn't like pellets though. I've tried a bunch of times.

If they're eating krill, I bet they'd take shrimp as well.

Sorry about your loss, mine is definitely my favorite fish. I think they get more silvery as they get older.
