I win an ebay auction for an air pump and the total is about $14. After the auction finishes, I head out to walmart for some things. I pass through their pet section. They are selling the identical air pump that I won on ebay, and it's $9.48. Curses.

Btw, there were some VERY terrible looking fish at walmart. A small tank with 12 pacu, all with torn up tails and fins- even dorsal fins! I myself have never seen tattered dorsals. All the fish looked lethargic, and the only ones really swimming were the goldfish, but then again it's because they are goldfish. There was also an incredibly overstocked tank with green spotted puffers, all trying desperately to swim, but it was hard cause most of them didn't have much for tails or fins. It was a terrible sight to see.

yeah wal mart fish suck:irked: ...........and research before you buy / bid:D !!!!!

well i did look around the local pet shops. it was $15 approx for a 20gal model air pump. so $14 for a 60gal model with 2 outputs (which is ideal for what i needed it for) is still a deal for me. just not as much of a deal as that $9.48.

oh well at least you won the auction:)

I hate Walmart. The only fish I've ever bought there was a spotted puffer and I quarantined it for a month before adding it to my tank. It actually did very well, until my fahaka puffer tried to eat him, and caused massive internal injuries. It's really quite amaizing how tuff a puffers skin is. Anyway, I always look at Walmart (or Meijer if you have one) before going to the pet store for equipment. It is almost always several dollars cheaper. Ebay is a great resource and I've gotten some awsome deals from it, but you have to research prices first to make sure you get a good deal. I've gotten a oddysea external filter system, good for up to 200 gallons for just under $50 with shipping. At the stores it was selling for almost $200, great deal. The problem is that with small things like air pumps and heaters etc. people put them on ebay as a buy it now, or with a starting price that is basically what you'd pay for it anywhere, then you have to pay shipping on top of it. I guess the best part of you experience is you only lost $5.

Wow your Walmarts must have good pet sections. Usually all mine has are goldfish, bettas, and some mollies, I've never seen any fish worth buying. But what little equipment they have sells for pretty cheap.

The live fishes were actually a new addition. Wasn't there 2 weeks ago.
Your mention of bettas reminded me to mention that walmart is selling african clawed frogs and african dwarf frogs in the same manner as bettas (in them tiny desert cups). Pretty sure most of them will end up dead. And the clawed frogs get huge. They've also got mystery snails too in desert cups. All the bettas I've seen were still at the bottom of the cup, though i was surprised that they sold both males and females, and were actually accurately deparated.

my local pets mart has hith on there oscars and wont do any thing to fix the problem. my walmart is actually pretty good about fish. they over stock but do a pretty good job and when a fish gets sick they quarinteen it and treat it. but there betas are in cups.
