I was looking at the TUIC stock list this morning and saw wild Colombian Rams, so I ordered six I asked for 3 pairs. It's been a while since I had Rams (years) I gave up on the harmone injected crap you see a most LFS. They look great for a few weeks and then crash and burn. So when I saw wild cought I couldn't resist. I should have them tomorrow and I'll take some pics one they are settled in. If any body has any tips or suggestions for these guys I'm all ears or eyes as the case my be.

I ment to post this in the main section not here, sorry. Mods you can move this over if you want.

Keep them warm (84F at least) and feed them really well to get some weight on them. Every time I get wild-caught dwarfs like rams or Laetacara, they tend to come in really skinny from all the travel and being moved around.

Thats awesome. I saw those too, and if i had room i probably would have gotten them also.

I have a planted tank with about 25 Neon's, 4 Silver Hatchet's, 8 Oto's, 4 Amano shrimp and about 12 Ghost shrimp. I've been trying to decide what to else to put in it and when I saw the wild Rams it sealed the deal. I was leaning towards Apistos but wanted Rams for a while I couldn't justify buying them from a LFS. I'll give these guys a shot and see how it goes. They'll be at the house buy the time I get home. I did a water change yesterday and bumped the temp up to 83, everything looked good this morning when I checked, 0,0,10 PH is 6.8.

I agree with the temp, though the neon's won't like the higher temps. You might want to think about switching over to cardinals, green neons, or rummynose. The shrimp might not like the higher temp either, but I never kept them at the elevated temps rams prefer.

That's awesome. I didn't know that you were interested in Rams. I went through several pairs years ago. I could never get them to live long. That's probably because I got them from a local shop. They seemed very sensitive to the smallest changes in their water. I'm sure your wild-caught Rams will do much better in an established planted tank. Good luck.

I was thinking the same thing about the Neons, I got them only because I couldn't find any Cardinals which were my first choice. We'll see about the shrimp, the goasts go they go they were 10 cents apiece the Amano shrimp should be able to take the tamp I've kept them in planted Discus tanks with no adverse affects. To be honest everything in the tank can be replaced without too much trouble the Rams will be the corner stone wich the tank will be stocked around if changes need to be made. Thanks for your input, I'm open to all suggestions.

Yeah, I have a sensative side....lol, not just glass banging monsters. I've always loved Rams, but like I said it's hard to get good ones. I'm siked about this new set up. I'll get some pics up so this thread wouln't be such a bummer to open "What? no pics?"......hahaha

Good quality rams are pretty tough as long as you keep the temp warm and there is no ammonia/nitrite. One of the other things to remember is that rams have a really short lifespan, maybe a couple years at most.
