Just picked up a Gar for $12

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The point is whatever someone says you will argue so I'm not bothering. Your right lol. Gators are the ideal gar for higher salinity.
i don't see an argument, i see a discussion and i see you getting mad over nothing. I mentioned there are safer tools for procedures and you got an attitude about it. It's silly, so let's just forget it and move on.

Will Gator gar try to eat smaller members of the Gar family even if they grow-up together?

Frank I'm not mad. What you say could literally make no smaller difference to my day. This is a forum for help so do I really care what frank castle says from the states? I give 0 f***'s. I don't know I don't keep fish that hit massive proportions in tanks that aren't big enough. I've never kept gator gar and probably never will. Trops Cubans floridas sure all fine together

i'm curious because i can get one for $20-$30, and sell it for quite a profit once it grows for a year or so. There's a big demand for monster fish at some of my LFSs

Really people actually pay for large gator gars where you are? Lucky to give them away for free here

IDK about "large" but i can double or triple my money on a juvenile in a year's growth period, as with almost anything i own or take interest in. Super-sized fish are a no-go, but i have friends at different stores that have MASSIVE tanks and are right near or in the ritzy sections so people have lots of money and the fish fanatics locally have huge tanks for stuff like that. One of the LFS sold a Paraiba that was a donation and it was 3.5'-4'. Their biggest holding tank is a 360g, 8-footer, and they have a 265g, 7-footer for SW, while the other LFS has a 5,000g cylindrical SW reef tank and several dozen 120g tanks built into the store walls

since when does handling a fish by the gill plate hurt it? I see people do it all the time

Never handle any fish by the gill plate,I have seen multiple injuries to fish involving this method,u should also never hold a fish by the mouth/lips.

it safer than handling them by the body and removing the protective slime coat and rendering their immune system weak for infection and pathogens to sink-in. Handling fish in general isn't "good for them" but lip-grip is by FAR the safest

Read further there's the problem
hey, you know what, I just realized I ID'd the ones I caught by RANGE and SIZE, not pattern LOL I was in C. Florida fishing the St. John's River and Spotteds only occur in the panhandle area so process of elimination, plus the girth and weight on it were too big to be a Spotted - those suckers were 8-10lbs if not more

Sorry for the confusion lol i'm a d***
