I was never fond of green terror except today when i happened to pass by one that has really nice, bright red tail and greenish body. He's about 4-5 iinches and went for $50. Dicd I pay too much for him? And also give me as much info about GT as this is my very first one. He's in a 500G Barebottom with a 10 inch emperor ciclid (very passive)and a foot long red devil whose punking him this very moment. Thanks

dude that red devil will most likely kill him if he puts his mind to it especially since he is SOO much bigger, GTs are aggressive but not near the level aggression of a red devil, also i dont know about price that would depend on your area and if bigger GTs are commonly up for sale or not i personally wouldnt pay that much for one especially at 4-5in maybe at 8in... but pretty much as long as you really like the fish then its worth it. got any pics?

Personally, I have never seen a GT sell for that much at any size. If you value your new fish and the 50 that you paid for it, get it away from your foot-long Red Devil! That GT is too small to defend itself against such an aggressive fish.

in my area, you'd have paid too much, maybe 2x too much . . . and I agree with the advice above, you do run a risk by putting a 5" GT in with a 12" RD . . .

500G? damn, that is a lot of tank . . .

Wow! Somehow I managed to look over the 500gal. tank part! I guess my eyes got stuck on the 5" GT vs foot-long RD part. I'm surprised that the RD can even find the GT in there. But I still think you should get some size on the GT before placing it with the RD. Nice tank size though!

If it's a red saum instead of gold, the $50 at 5" sounds about right.

WOW yeah wouldnt think the RD would even see it in there LOL why you only have 2 fish (now 3) in 500g? if you put more fish in there then that red devil will have more options in spreading out his aggression (and tank wont look so empty either lol)

there is a red saum? i thought they were all called orange saums and some just have more red to their tail then orange, never heard of a red saum before...

Sarah88 - Well they are all one species, but they can have red edging, orange edging, or white edging ... most people just change the color name before the saum to reflect which variation it is. The bright, solid red ones are the rarest though.

yeah i knew they were one species i had just only ever heard of white and gold saums and thought gold just covered all the variations of gold/red but thats cool though and yeah that would be a sweet find if it was all red edging my little guy that was made to jump by his "loving" gf, had red inner edging with orange outer and it looked pretty awesome

Some of my fish in the 500G recently died due to my own stupidity. I lost an arrowana, Giant gourami, pacu. Kicking myself real hard when it happened. I have a pretty nasty Rosequeen but i removed him to a 150G by himself because he's a punk to other fish. Anyhow the RD is showing aggression but nothing serious. I dont know what kind of GT I just bought except that its color is pretty vibrant compared to the other GT in the same tank. 500 G is big but remember these fish live in large river, lake in the wild.
