It's only about 3-4" only right now but all signs are putting to it being a male so keeping my fingers cross.

Got it into the 55g with some young Midas and Chancos lastnight. As true with most/all Umbees it's the dominant fish already:grinno:

Will post pics soon.

Guess I should post a question too. How many of you out there has Umbees?

if you don't mind me asking in here too how big of a tank must a umbee have at max size

300g(or 8'x3' footprint) at least.. with a good filtration system..

they do reach 24", though i have never seen one over 19", but still a big tank, like stated above, a 300, with that footprint, would work, but i have never seen a 300 gal, with a width of over 30", being sold comercially, though you may be ab;e to build on with those dimentions, though the height would be probly like 20", which might not be tall enough, becuase if memery serves me a 300 gal with 8'x30" footprint has a height of about 25".

I have heard that they are very sensitive to water quality so they generally need an even bigger tank minimum than their size would indicate. I forget what it is that they get most of the time, I think its dropsy or some type of swimming bladder problem, not 100% though.

Amazing fish none the less. Nice pick up, I wish you luck.

The one in the photo you posted was 24" or so when sold. And more realistically on tank size you're right 8x30" would be fine.
