Just picked up this guy today. Officially my biggest fish....for now ;)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
He looks a bit thin, was he a rescue? I love these fish.

Not really. He was in a predatory tank and was getting beat up on, hence the frayed fins, so the guy needed to get rid of him before he got beat up too bad. He's already eaten 5 algae wafers and about a dozen massivore pellets, so he's gonna start bulking up real soon. I finally have a use for my stock pile of algae wafers! haha

Yeah I'm sure he'll bulk up for you real quick. Mine were massively thick.

If he is anything like my two, he will get injured on that sharp piece of driftwood. Any objects in the tank will be destroyed, and/or swallowed. His injured upper lip is from slamming into tank walls during a freak out. Any new scrapes and missing scale areas will be from him slamming into things including tank lids. My two pacu need a padded cell to keep from injuring themselves.

Red bellied pacu I own 3 15" they are huge aggressive and beautiful they have human like teeth instead of piranha teeth and they are actually somewhat herbivores ironically lol, but they will eat meat. The get huge quick so if u wanna keep em think of a pond in the near future

Pacu are omnivores and will consume/devour anything. Some people believe that feeding them meat makes them more aggressive. Feeding them live food would be even worse. Never heard of pacus on an herbivore diet being aggressive. My poor boy slammed into a tank lid that was accidentally left ajar. He had a zombie look for quite a while until his lower lip regenerated.

His incisors are crooked. (You can also see his massive girth. He isn't fat, he's just massive)
