Red bellied pacu I own 3 15" they are huge aggressive and beautiful they have human like teeth instead of piranha teeth and they are actually somewhat herbivores ironically lol, but they will eat meat. The get huge quick so if u wanna keep em think of a pond in the near future

I've heard certain nuts are in their diet, I was thinking of trying some. Are there certain ones I should avoid? Or just certain foods I should avoid in general? Obviously meats and processed human food.

Mine would inhale whole almonds without chewing. I stopped giving almonds to them....didn't know if they would mess up the plumbing. They love fruits and veggies, but I have found that they are very messy eaters, and the food particles will raise the nitrates more quickly than feeding them pellet type food. Our pacu get fed algae wafers now. Here's an old video of our pacu eating slices of potato. You can see all the particles in the water. It's very fun to watch them eating different stuff, but for us, it's not worth the impact on water quality.

So we threw in baby carrot pieces... HOLY CRAP!!! We could hear him biting in to it and breaking it like a human does! I mean yes I know they have human like teeth, but actually hearing a carrot break the same way it does when I bite it was just AWESOME!! I'll definitely get a video next time.
