Ok so i just added the sand and my water looks like crap...

I bought the pool filter sand at home depot... $5.39 for 50 pounds.
I came home took out the gravel from the tank and used the python to remove any waste that was left over. I then took out the fish and put them in a 10 gallon container with an air machine.

I rinsed the sand(half at a time) in a 5 gallon bucket until the water was somewhat clear.. not crystal by any means but way clearer than when i started rinsing.

I then added the sand to the tank and now the tank water is murky as heck..

My questions...
1. Will putting the fish into this murky water harm them in any way?
2. How long would it be for my water to clear? Current filter is a penguin 350
3. Will doing some water changes speed up the process?

Heres what the tank looks like now.

Tank is a 46 bowfront and heres a link to the thread

i would leave the filter off for just a few and let it settle. a water change will definitely help.
i wouldn't put my fish in there but it might not hurt them idk

The turbidity wouldnt bother the fish too much. Depending on the fish i guess. I would do a 25 percent or greater wc. Running the filter will help but also will deposit that stuff inyour media.

WATER CHANGE WATER CHANGE WATER CHANGE

This step is imperative. letting the floating sand settle means that it will just be up and floating again as soon as it's disturbed by fish.

I have never had PFS do this to me

I probably did not rinse it out as much as you did :/.

The tank water is getting clearer and i have not done a w/c yet... I will do about a 50 pct one now and see how much better it gets!

Thanks guys

Not fully done with the water change but i drained the tank to about 50 pct then started filling up with new water, as previously stated so the water does not disrupt the sand. I used my hand :P.

Well its looking alot better now, and hopefully by the time i fill it up all the way its better... i figure i still have 15 gallons to go, maybe a bit less!

I just did this not to long ago... I put my fish in without issue. As well I turned my filter on and it cleared it up pretty quick (Eheim 2215)... Eventually it will all clear just be patient
