Just Received my First GATF!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My goliath was on feeders for three months until 5-6 inches then she switched over to freeze dried krill and she LOOOOOOOOVESSSSSS It

Nice thanks for the tip. I feed them frozen silversides a couple times a week but still give them feeders as well. The goliath (hannibal) seems to get much more agitated after a day or two if I try and only give him frozen silversides as his food. Switching back and forth has been working well lately reducing the risk of disease by feeding some non live but also letting them hunt live food and take their aggression out on the goldfish instead of each other.

There is now currently the Goliath, a Hujeta Barracuda, and a silver dollar in the one tank. I had to remove the armatus and also the BATF recently due to fighting. The new tank is having its last coat of paint put on this weekend and then it will be up and running. I am going to put them back together once its up, hoping that the large increase in tank size and space will reduce the fighting over territory. I will probably start a new thread for the tank as soon as its up and give a big update. Goliath is well over 10" now, Armatus is about the same and very interactive (I have been hand feeding him tilapia lately incredible to watch), and the BATF is about 7" and developing some very nice color and stripes.

Nice tank! I have one of those current making devices in my tank. I have it installed high on my tank. Do you think it would be best if I moved it to a lower location in the tank? Your fish really seam to be enjoying the water flow. I have a 6'' GATF living solo in a blacked out 75 gallon tank.

Hey Lemarj, very nice. Over the past 7 months I have put the powerheads in a number of different locations. experimenting. When I first got him my big concern was him smashing his face up from banging into the walls of the tank. My present setup has worked the longest and is what I recommend. I have 2 koralia 1400gph powerheads pushing current in the same direction along the bottom of the tank. My goliath is so strong a quick tail thrust and he could be through the side of the tank if he wanted even while swimming directly into the powerheads. I think the constant swimming and moving water keeps him active and seems to keep him occupied and calmer as well.

Also swimming directly into the current for 8 months has made him significantly more muscular in appearance. Hes just in the tank working out all day on a fish's version of a treadmill haha.

I finally am putting my new custom tank on the stand tonight and filling it up to start cycling. I would not recommend having a GATF in a smaller tank like the 90gallon I have for too long. My plan was to move him 2 or 3 months ago but alot of planning and work had to go in to the new tank and stand and it took longer than I initially anticipated. If you are going to keep him in the 75 for him to grow then the powerhead setup I have is the way to go in my opinion but once he hits 9 or 10" ya gotta be ready to move him or he will be real cramped. get all bashed up, or potentially bust the tank if he gets real spooked.

New thread with the new tank will be up after I get it setup and cycled. Gonna be sick cant wait to share with everyone.

Ok , Im putting him in a 125 gallon tank in a few months. I still havent seen him eat . I put in a few Rosey Reds and they are gone in the course of a few days. Do you have any recommendations? At what size should I introduce nonlive food and what type of food would you recommend? Where did you purchase your fish and how much was he?

My goal is to one day get a 450 gallon tank and house my GATF and my True Alligator gars.
