just recieved my shrimp hatchery

it only takes about 10 minutes for the eggs to settle.

i dont think temp makes a difference. i had mine in my fry tank, when i extract the bbs out i leave it hanging on the side of the tank, but after a few days i decided to see if itll still hatch out of tank, which worked. just use the same tank water from the tank in your hatchery, if out of tank the temp will go down a bit but i dont think it will make a difference.

for my first batch of eggs it didnt hatch well, try mixing the unhatched eggs at the bottom of your hatchery with a stick or something to get it going before the bubbles start the tumble, that might help.

can these feed 5 inch convicts? not only fry?

why wouldn't they? They could feed you if you wanted. I wouldn't strictly feed them brine shrimp but it would be good to give to them with whatever else you've been feeding them.

thanks so much for all your guys help lets see if im getting this staight. once i see pink in the tank shut off the pump (wont the water leak out???) then let the egg shells float to the top put a flashlight light to the side of the tank then suck them out into like a cup then throw them in the tank??!!!

Sounds like you got it to me. I don't see why the water would leak out unless you built your hatchery wrong. You put the thing on your bubbler hose to keep the water from coming back down into your bubbler right?

If you can't see pink and its been a good 16-24 hours then turn on your bubbler, wait ten minutes and come back to see if they have sunk to the bottom. You don't need to do anything with a flashlight, I don't know where that step came into play unless it attracts them or something. Once you see the pink grab a turkey baster or whatever you have and squeeze them into a cup (I used a dixie cup from my bathroom.) Took them downstairs and dumped them in..

and since I posted in this thread my brine shrimp finally hatched.. I guess they won't hatch at room temperature but they did at 76 degrees for me.

the bbs are attracted to light from what ive read.

if you're afraid of the water leaking you could put a valve on one end and close it when you want to take the bubbler out.

from a guide on these forums, if u dont mind the salt being in your tank then you could put the bbs straight in. otherwise filter the bbs through coffee paper, flip the paper inside out and put the bbs into the tank.

Actually idk if larger than babies would eat these. They might but they are darn small and the fish may not bother. They are not filter feeders so who knows if they can even catch enough in their mouth to eat. I mean it cant hurt to try excpet when they dont eat them they will die and add to your bio load.

I'm never going to bother hatching these things again. I put a bunch of unhatched ones in with the hatched ones and they turned my tank slime green. Everything is fine accept its really green and disgusting looking. I can't see but like 2 inches into my tank now and I don't want to do a water change with like 40 babies in my tank.
