Well I just put the plants into my shrimp tank im making. Here they are:

I will probably get a diffrent sponge as a filter since that one is just huge...I am hoping the dwarf hairgrass will eventually cover it up. But yeah one is a amazon sword and the other is dwarf hairgrass. Got both at my lfs. Will add shrimp once the plants are established and the tank is cycled. Will drop some feeders in there to dirty up the water in a week!

Its a 2.5 gallon. Got some dwarf hairgrass and an amazon sword planted atm. I still am not sure what kind of shrimp may go with cherries since they are hardy and I have never done a shrimp tank before. Any suggestions on shrimp? Tank still needs to cycle.

Yeah I was gouing to go with them first but seeing as its so easy for nano tanks to go south and kill everything I decided to just go with cherries. But adding shrimp will be in another 1 to 4 weeks.

Would it be better to go with water changes from an established tank?

If you have a tank that is already cycled, you could probably take some gravel out of it to help seed the new one. Perhaps also submerging the sponge filter you will put in the new tank in the cycled one for a couple days and then use it. :) Obviously, adding water from the cycled one would help too.

Thanks y'all! Yeah I really like cherry shrimp and will probably be selling them if i get over a certain amount in the tank. The gravel thats in the tank is from another cycled tank and i just didn't know if the water would harm the cycling of my tank. So I guess the only thing left to do is put the sponge in another tank for a bit :]

I have a old Hex that i had set up as a shrimp tank at one point. I really enjoyed it, I kept ghost shrimp in it and never had a problem. i had it on my nightstand and would watch them move around, always cleaning. I think you have inspired me to go out in the garage and find that thing to take to work and set up again. That's exactly what i need, something to make me less productive, hahaha.
Can't wait to see how yours turns out, got any pics?

I'm glad I inspired you to get back into it! *pocks chest out like superman* lol. But I haven't got any shrimp yet having problems with the plants right now and I wanna make sure it'll be safe for them and they just die when I put them in :/ I just installed a heater tho and hopefully that will help the plants out some! I will defiantly upload pics once I get shrimp and the whole process of them being introduced to the tank :]

Good luck on your tank!
