Just thinking... Will this work?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well, if there is a breeding pair of pretty much any kind of cichlid, the other fish are going to be killed. If you really want dither fish, try african cichlids or something like that.

when it comes to breeding Cichlids I recommend giving them their own tank with no tank mates...

My current stock in my 150g cichlid tank

10" male jack dempsey
6-7" female jack dempsey
7" male red devil
5-6" female red devil
2x 4" male pink convicts
5-6" female green terror
3" female texas cichlid
8" polleni
3-4" pair on firemouths
3-4" pair of convicts(with fry)

Although there is some aggression in this tank, the only real problem is the convicts and that will be solved, once the fry is removed. It is trail and error, you could do this same stocking with other fish and have complete turmoil.

You know that my 265 has 35 or 40 african and SA/CA cichlids ranging from 4" to 12" and I don't have aggresion problems.

You can keep spawning fish together but you have to give the other fisha place to retreat to.

When one of my pairs of jags or RD or barred midas start to spawn they clear out a dome around the spawning site but I haven't had them kill any of their tankmates. In my tank they can't kill all of the other fish.
