Might be unpopular but fish are not people and people always want to collect the newest and rarest, especially when it comes to line bred fish. It's that drive that caused people to line create these little monsters in the first place.

People are in the hobby for different reasons. Just because the OP doesn't approve of rating fish, doesn't mean that it's wrong to do it. Personally, I'm not in the hobby to win any awards, but some are. To each their own.

I think some of it is, I take great care of my fish, and it shows. There definitely is a correlation.

I just think as fishy parents we should love and think our wet pets are the best regardless of what someone else thinks.

The rating system is important if you're planning on selling fish at crazy prices that produce large spawns. Few keep theirs long term
Some guy that just culled 10,000 FH to produce a particular strain is NOT a fishy parent- he's an engineer finger painting with eugenics. It's all $$$$ to most FH producers.
