So what it sounds like is the tank size isn't as much the worry (of course i'm not gonna get a small tank) but the filtration is more of a need?

Yes filtration,,but you can keep your stock up and still maintain great water quality with less filtration,have you thought of a auto drip system?

nah not really lol just kinda playin with thoughts right now but i'm pretty sure these foot notes would help me get started if/when i decide to get started on a bigger tank

the bigger the better. you'll need a few heavy duty filters.
 
So i got an opportunity to get a 210g tank. It is 6ft long by 2ft wide by 30 1/12" tall. I was wondering if that was a good enough width?
