I see that there is a Die for ponds, both blue and Black. Any one know of any bad side effects of this in an aqarium?

Also will carbon remove this die, if I die my tank blue and hate it?

Dye?

Just to let you know if you are talking about the water being a color. It is more than likely something called methylene blue which is used by alot of fish farmers cause this chemical helps fish take in more oxygen and also helps fight off disease. There is also a chemical called malachite green which is a general cure all, people use to cure ick and other diseases. These will color your water green or blue for a while. And the will also stain anything it gets dripped on and the silicone on your tank.

Malachite green and methylene blue will also destroy your beneficial bacteria so watch out for your water parameters. Why is it in the tank anyway? Use carbon and do plenty of water changes to remove them but these will not be removed from the silicon sealant once the silicon is stained.

It's not in the tank yet, I just thought it might be cool to have a slight blue tint to the water.

Let me line you guys to the dye.

This just gives teh water a blue tint.

Formulated for smaller ponds of 1,000 gallons or less. Turns your pond an alluring shade of blue to help prevent photosynthesis from occurring in the pond. This will help keep algae from forming, provide safety for fish from predators and will help keep water cool in the hot summer days. The mild dye does not "overpower" the ability to see pond fish. Non-toxic, safe for fish and plants. The 8 fl. oz. bottle treats a 1,000 gallon pond for one month.

Cool I'm game. Ya think they have a tie dye color?:headbang2

I've seen it used once. They only used it in summer to inhibit algae growth (surprisingly it worked). Never could find an ingredients list though (after an exhausting 5 min search after I saw it used) so I was always leery.

I use these meds as a last resort ... this is the only med i have on hand.

Mine comes in a combo (mala-green-F): malachite green, methylen blue and zinc chloride. The water turns quite pretty, but i am always nervous using chems. Check out my outdoor set-up doused in stuff

For freshwater, I suppose you could use food coloring but I don't know what, if any effect it would have on the fish.
