Juvenile Del with an odd pattern

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I guess its hard for me to tell at that size with that pattern. But id say based on your other one, del. My little guy still has a very rounded head like those in the palmas complex. But pattern is like your little guy. Hes a slow grower too like my other gold dust was.

They do look like buettikoferi.

Thanks!
I really hope that those are buettikoferi and no hybrids.

I think I haven't posted on this forum yet that I rehomed ALL of my silverdollars into larger aquariums and ended up purchasing more and more bichirs.
Currently I do have 3 tanks dedicated to bichirs (6.5ft by 22in, 5ft by 20in and 3ft by 16in) and a total of 20 bichirs:
1 Polypterus bichir Lapradei Koliba
1 Polypterus bichir Lapradei Nigeria
1 Polypterus bichir bichir
9 Polypterus delhezi
2 Polypterus ornatipinnis
3 Polypterus teugelsi
3 Polypterus palmas buettikoferi
With all being CB besides the Nigerian lap.
I will get another tank with a footprint of 6ft by 27.5in or 23.6in next year or so in which I would like to house the three Polypterus bichir, ornatipinnis and teugelsi (the larger species) with maybe a Lepisosteus oculatus and some suitable predators (not sure about the gar though in a 23.6in wide tank in a 27.5in wide one I would go for it).
The 6.5ft by 22in will be used for my oscars and the 5ft by 20in by 23.6in tank will house smaller bichirs, some Parachanna obscura, Ctenopoma acutiroste and maybe the two Synodontis I am growing out in my angelfish tank.
