ebjd's are very delicate fish and are prone to disease; whether internal or external. keeping them with a school of fish is always nice, but keep in mind if one of those other fishes have something, they can be easily passed on to the blues because of their weak immune system

I've raised dozens of blues from juvy to adulthood, and from experience of loosing and growing some, I would recommend keeping them alone and with very clean water/lower temps.
Also, in addition to the garlic in NLS that helps keep their internal system protected, I would recommend Seachem's Poly or Paraguard which is extremely useful for treating/ preventing external diseases in the future if you come across anything. When I added it to my tank, my blues seemed to be more active and less skittish afterwards too.
Otherwise, another reason they can still be skittish in the tank is because of the lack of beneficial bacteria built up yet. Seachem's Stability would really help if thats the case.
Then you can enjoy the amazing fish with a peace of mind knowing they are healthy :) But up to you!

What temperature seemed to work for you? I'm bumped up to 80 currently to try and get their metabolism kicking, but am not adverse to backing it down some. I have preemptively treated with praziquantel - just one dose to kill anything that could have been going on with the tetra's. There is plenty of BB the tank has been established almost a year and hosted honduran redpoints previously which was more stocked than this. When I'm not around they swim and do their fish stuff, but when I'm near the hide - not the end of the world and will hopefully pass with time.

80's is too high..I've run without a heater before and at room temperature ranging from 74-76 deg and they were completely active. The breeder I bought from never ran a heater as well.
Your BB bacteria sounds fine, but I would definitely advise not to use Prazi again as it has side effects..

If you are worried about internal issues, then instead use RD's method and pre-soak the NLS pellets w/ the epsom salt solution for a few minutes (just a drop or 2 using a pipette)
This way, it will clean out their system in a much safer and healthier way and will actually make the pellets softer for the blues.

They seem to be eating better - still not great but better. I have used RD's epsom salt method before with great success. I will lower the temp and try that as a pre-emptive. What is wrong with prazi? Just curious everything I read said that it pretty much was a no issue med to BB at least. I am curious if their shyness is due to their size since they are relatively small 1.5 and two 1" approx. They are nice looking fish so far - I guess only time will tell how they turn out.

Good to hear. Please post pictures if you can. I would love to see how they react during feeding. :)

Will be home late this evening but I'll try to get a video. They are still a bit reserved usually waiting for food to come down to them not really in the frenzy mode yet. They are starting to realize when the other fish feed when its food time. They are enjoying the cooler water and improving each day.

I have had all kinds of issues in the past raising my Blues to adulthood, because as everyone knows, they are weak fragile fish. Hexamita, bloat, parasites, you name it they get it! Then I found Rick in Cali who breeds them, and the ones I have can eat anything with no problems and could live in a mud puddle. They are in a group of 21, 11 EBJD, 10 BGJD, all fish are now 2 1/2 to 5in. I got lucky and found a great breeder, who produced a insanely hardy EBJD. Its all genetics with these fish, and the majority are weak and pathetic! I only will order them from 2 breeders who have spent years improving there genetic lines. Other wise you just get the same old blues that are almost impossible to raise past 3 inches!
