Juvenile Festae starting to color up

My 3 inch festae is starting to color up. Looks like I have a boy

Yes sure it looks male n nicely colouring up too.
What do you feed your stock

A mix of Hikari pellets, worms, krill, shrimp. The pellets are the main staple though.

He's a slow grower though. I got him at 1 inch and its taken him 8 months to grow to 3 inches.
 
How big a tank is he in , who are the other occupants in it

He's in a 75 gallon right now with 5 tin foil barbs, 4 clown loaches, an acara, and a bristle nose pleco. They are all smaller except the barbs.
 
He will hit a growth spurt, once he hits 5 or so inches he will soar to 10 before you know it
Can definitely confirm this claim. Mine eventually accelerated their growth rate once they hit about 6", and don't appear to be slowing down. My adopted male is now regularly staring down a 12" Oscar and he's maybe 9".
