Juvenile Flowerhorns and community tank

I think I set a trap for myself with the convicts. Although it’s realky cool to watch the cycle of egg all the way to free swimming babies and the interactions it causes, I think it’s adding stress on the tank and inadvertently cutting the tank off from the other fish cause we all know convicts are real good parents. I think if they weren’t in the picture things might have gone differently cause he could have hid from the GT instead of swimming away from him straight into the convicts spot. So I’m going to let him heal up on his own and try again in a few days. Thanks fully he’s already eating I was real worried he wouldn’t after being transported, acclimated, and hanged up on.

In your situation I would move the convict pair to their own tank. It doesn't need to be huge. A 30 gallon should suffice.

I would also strongly suggest keeping the flowerhorn out of the community tank. With the species you have, the limited space and a flowerhorn added to the mix you will have WWIII in there. He could be a great wet pet in his own setup.

I do think the tables will turn eventually. FH are more aggressive. Tbh I’m not in love with the Salvini either. I do love my Jags though. But I’d rather have Dovii’s. So I may make that change.

A tank with Dovii's and other fish will probably end up as usually: The Dovii killing every other fish in the tank ;-)

Yep I agree I think the convicts need to go. I don’t want to get rid of the FH he’s gorgeous and I spent quite a bit for him. I’m pretty sure he’s a Kamfa. All my fish are pretty tough so I don’t mind aggression here and there but what happened was too much so I’m going to get rid of the convicts before I try again for a final time. I’ve seen it done before where an FH is in a community set up. If it doesn’t work I’ll let him stay in the tank alone and remove everyone else. I don’t want multiple tanks the wife is already giving me the “look” with the little 15 I have the FH in now lol

Seems to me like a couple different train wrecks just waiting to happen. While FH are typically aggressive fish, they are also known to easily succumb to gastrointestinal issues when under stress. If you visit the FH section there are a zillion threads regarding FH suffering from hexamita. Not all survive the illness, and/or secondary infections caused from the stress.
