I recently sold my south american cichlids to switch to an african tank and i threw a frontosa and an electric blue mbuna in there as well they are th best of friends.. But eventually will they be enemys?? And if not can i add more africans? And if so what assortment would be the best?

i wouldnt say enemy's but the mbuna prob will not tolerate a larger fish in his territory so he will probably nip the frotosas fins like crazy forcing the frontosa to feel uncomfortable and who knows how long he will tolerate that from a fish that can easily fit in his mouth. the mbuna will mature faster than the frontosa will grow so it will be a one sided battle for a long time. those 2 fish species would never encounter each other in the wild. im not a fan of mixing the different lakes when it comes to african cichlids. i would pick 1 type of cichlid for now and see how you do. there are many types of mbuna you could mix that i see people do all the time. adult frontosa need a 6 foot tank and much mellower tank mates.

if it twer me i would just have 8 of those beautiful zaires you have there. like a 2m 6f ratio if possible, even 3m 5f.
the fish in your avi look great by the way. have you vented them?

I don't know what you mean by venting them. This hobby has become a life for me now. Lol I've been at it for almost two years I started with a 5 gal. And I've moved on to 125. But even after that it's like whats the next tank. There are so many things I want to do. I was breeding jack dempseys and green terrors. After some frontosa came into town I decided to switch. Frontosa are beautiful. I also have a juvie tank right now in a 75g bowfront. I have sand substrate, a magnum 350 filter and a penguin emperor bio wheel. I was running an undergravel filter before the sand but I knew better. The reason why I'm telling you this is I'm struggling with that tank. Fish are doing great. The filters are a ***** because I'm always cleaning sand and my impellers sound terrible. Is there a certain type of filter that fairs best with sand. Or is this always going to be like this. I've been wrapping the intakes with media but even still after 3 days or so there's that sound. I put a few different species in the 75.

venting >> http://www.fishhead.com/articles/ventsex.htm very good skill to learn and its fairly easy with frontosa.
you may have roasted your impeller with sand. maybe try taking it apart and washing out the sand from the impeller housing.
try not to stir up the sand so it gets sucked in, a lil is ok but if you working in the tank or with the substrate just turn the filter off to save you the headache. im sending you a pm.
where you from anyway?

can you elaborate on what you mean by 'putting clearwater in after water changes'? and what did it help?
