hello, I am very new to Monsterfishkeepers. I recently purchased two juvenile green terrors from the local LFS. They are in a 55 gallon with a pleco, Red Texas and a JD. I have treated all of them for ich as they were not quarantined for long enough. After treatment Everyone is doing well except for my two Terrors. Their fins are up and displayed like normal but they refuse to eat. I have checked water peramiters and are as follows; nitrate 20ppm, nitrite 0, chlorine 0, alkalinity 120 ppm, ph 7.8 and ammonia 0. They have turned around quite a bit but have not eaten in 3 days. We treated for secondary fungal infection and also added aquarium salt to the water to hopefully aid in their recovery. Any advice to help us save our Terror twins would be greatly appreciated. We hope to be able to move everyone to their new 125 gallon home in the next month or so but I want them well first. Thanks

What are u feeding them? How long u treat for ick? It can stay in there gills for some time..every fish responses to ick differently..what medics did u use? What water tem?

We feed a variety of foods, frozen brine shrimp, and blood worms. a tropical fish flake food and Hikari cichlid staple pellet. We treated for ich for 4 days and followed directions precisely to package directions using Victoria Green. The tank temp is at a steady temp of 77 degrees farenheit. We have treated for 4 days for any fungus or secondary infections using Nitrofurazone and Potasium Dichromate along with 1 tablespoon of aquarium salt per 5 gallons to aid in their recovery.

While dosing with meds we changed water as directions indicated and pulled out the charcoal filters while treating for ich. New charcoal filters placed back in and waited 2 full days before pulling them and starting the secondary treatment with the Nitro/Potassium, tomorrow will be day 4 and we will change out water again per directions.

Is the Kordon ich treatment a readily available product? All we have around here are commercial fish places like Petsmart and Petco. No specialty shops unfortunately. I have been very lucky to find the fish that I have as most of the time they carry just varieties of African cichlids. I have also an African tank that is 60 gallons and they are very beautiful and seem to be very hardy. My South American tank is my problem child tank....ugh!!

Petco in miami sells kordon ick treatment...or buy off amazon...rocksor is also right..aggression will cause cichlid to stop eating..try kordon 13 dollars..it natural..the malachite green stains the tanks silicone and filter media..i also have a bottle ready incase of ich..but always quarantine new fish in small tank before adding to u aquarium..petsmart..petco constantly have fish with ich

New fish may not eat up to 1 week even when healthy, especially if there are other more aggressive cichlids in the tank.
I have had them almost a month now and they were quite the little voracious eaters. They have been off of their food now for 4 days. I am going to do a different ich medicine to see if that makes a difference. I noticed a new spot on one of them this morning. That confirmed my suspicion as to weather or not they were still sick. Hopefully this works. I plan on raising the temp a little bit more too to kind of speed things up a bit. Any and all advice I can get is very welcome. Thanks for your comment it is very appreciated.

I raise to 85 degrees..fish handle it fine.. It causes the life cycle of the ich to decrease causes white spots to fall off faster..that when medicine can kill it..even if no white spots does not mean they healed..they could still have spots inside there gills..i always treat for 2 weeks to make sure it good..good news if fish survive u treatment..they build strong immune to it and it harder for that fish to get it again..i had ich years ago as a beginner and had a bala shark he got ich treated with kordon..in next 4 months ich hit the tank again cause my lack of quarantine new fish..he never got white shots the next 2 outbreak s..good luck
