Juvenile Jag?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I love how everyone is on that jag grind:cool-1:

They are awesome fish. Been waiting a long time for mine. Spent a while drooling on youtube before dedicating a tank.

I am surprised how smart they are. I have an overload of Firemouth fry. So I dumped a few into the Jags tank. Nobody could catch them. The fry were all hiding behind a large plant. He went back there and they all scattered. He waited until they all were chased back and he gulped them up one by one. I was very surprised I know they are ambush predators but that shows some intelligence.

yeah they are wicked hunters, mainly fish eaters that's probly why they reach such large sizes like 24" in the wild. another fish I like just as much as the jag is the red tiger motaguense but jags reach a significantly larger size that's why id rather keep a jag. love em but they take up a lot of space that's why im giving mine a whole 125 screw it lol I know I wont be dissapointed

yea the Jag is already the boss, the carpintis want nothing to do with him prolly cause his mouth is 3 times the size of there mouth. New floor goin down Friday then im setting up the 125. Gonna move the Jag and most likely 2 carpintis to the 125 with hopes of 1 making it with the jag, mainly y im hoping for a female. Gonna give 1 carpintis the 55 for a home by itself with the bristlenose and cories. I have 1 of the 2 eheim 2217 filters on the 55 with the fuval 406 in hopes it will have enough bacteria to seed the 125 along with some of the driftwood im gonna move over. N e suggestions on substrate? Was thinking some cheap pea gravel mixed with fluorite so I can attempt some plants.

Don't expect the jag to tolerate plants.they are notorious digger and if it doesn't shred the plants it will uproot them

That's wut I have heard, just thought I might try. Maybe not worth it, thought about sand but haven't had it before and worried it could be a mess with the filters and cleaning the tank. It is acrylic and im afraid I scratch even more.

I to also have been growing out a fry jag. Got him/her at less than an inch. Now it's about 2in. He's already pellet fed unlike my 7" female jag which doesn't eat pellets and she's in my 240 gallon and the Queen of the tank. All she eats is Hikari algae wafers. She'll eat about 3-4 of them all at the same time. Feel bad for my flagtails. But my 2in is growing out in my 120 with jd, datnoid, red texas and 6 tinfoil barbs. These fish I am power feeding them 2 times a day and doing weekly water changes.

Here's a pic of my female jag making her nest. To bad I don't have a male for her. Been trying to find one ever since she laid eggs.

Wont the Carpintis eat the cories when they get bigger?
