Is it common for juvenile trimac (3-4 inch) to start gaining red coloring on the tail and top fin on the tail fin its almost turning completely red and the top has a red coloring in it... IS THIS COMMON or NORMAL?

Post a pic...

You're setting yourself up for someone to say it's not a trimac without the benefit of even seeing it. Even if you post a pic, you'll get someone that will tell you it's a flowerhorn because most people have no idea what a real trimac even looks like.

My trimac juvies get a very thin red tip on their dorsal and tail.

this thread may turn bad..but we need pics

Mine has a red strip along the top of the dorsal fin. How long it will stay there, I don't know. It doesn't show well in these photos but it can clearly be seen in person. Here's my female about 3.5-4". She has some nice little teeth coming in too.

I wasn't asking if my fish is a trimac or a FH.... i was just asking if it is common for juvenile trimacs to get red coloring on there tail and dorsal but thx for the input.... but i just realized my little trimac looks almost EXACTLY like the one pictured above but mine looks a little beefier and colors look more distinguished.

...And, to be absolutely clear, I wasn't saying that it was.

That's a nice female balton. She looks like she's been a little roughed up on the sides. Spawning? My females get roughed up like that when they spawn.

She was getting beat up in another tank. I moved her to this tank the day before the pics. Hopefully she'll be able to grow out in here.

Odie, yours sounds cool. Can you get another cable? I think I speak for everyone when I say we want some pics-lol. Females will have a blotch on the dorsal fin.
