Juvie Jag - Torn Fin Question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
^I agree with Aquanero, keep up that diet you currently have and time will tell with the fin tear. He/she is already showing some great coloring - keep up the good work!

Looks like only soft ray tissue damage in the pic, which normally heals.

From the picture it looks like a broken or deformed fin ray. I think it will most likly fill in as the fish grows but it's also possable it could remain that way. I don't think it needs any meds, a good diet, clean water changes and time will tell.

Agreed with this. What is it housed with currently? You'll find that if theres any stress/aggression/nipping from other inhabitants that it will hugely prolong the healing process.

It's hard to tell from photos just how serious/permanent the damage is as both 'sections' of the caudal fin will be swaying and bending differently in the water. From that photo though it looks like both the top and bottom soft rays are bending away from the tear, but that is more than likely the angle.

His only tankmate is a Pleco, so stress or other agression from fish should not be a problem.

I have two whisper 30-60s HoBs on the tank atm, I could probably crank down the gph on them to lessen the current, which may in turn lessen the amount his fin needs to move.

i got a chocolate thats fin was just like that and 3 days and looks brand new
