Unfortunately, baby cichla have issues with living. It happens. I've learned the less you care about them, the better their chances at survival.
Everyone says to raise the temp to 87, put in an airstone, yada yada. I did this with my first batch of orinos, 1 made it. My next set I tossed in a 5g with no heater and didn't give them a second thought and they all lived...until they went in a bigger tank and were eating by a slightly larger kelberi.
This batch is out in the garage tank, the temp is high because the garage is hot. I added salt when I first got them because the two 4" branco's were laying on their side and breathing hard. Everyone seems to be back to normal now though.
Thats why big pbass are expensive - they're hard to raise.
