Hi, I have a juwel rio 180 (40"x16"x20") and I decided to try and breed some fish as I have never done this before (with the exeption of guppies lol).

I would like to know, if this was your tank, what would you put in and try and breed and why.

Electric blue jack dempseys

Why: Look great, cost $hit loads of money, and are cool

I'd probably try to breed pickerels, or maybe one of the smaller species of black bass or bullhead. Next in line would be my sunnies. I would probably bring my warmouth in from their pond and put them in there. I might would even try bichirs. Considering your a first time breeder, except for guppies, you could try one of the larger, easy to care for and breed livebearers, such as four-eyed fish or pike livebearers. Or maybe one of the cichlids, which will take care of their young. With a 180 I would try africans or texas cichlids. There are also some larger minnows you could breed. Creek chubs would be kinda cool. They build long ridge-nests to lay their eggs in.

Nice ideas, but im in the UK, and I think most if not all of your natives are illegal here(might be able to get a permit but abit too much hassle for me)

Well, there are still the livebearers and cichlids that I mentioned. There are also numerous catfish you could try. Plecos of the small-medium sized species would be cool. I'm not a big fan of large fish that aren't complete predators, so I don't really know anything about larger plecos. I think most of them breed in mud-holes anyways. What about cons? Pink convicts actually can look kinda nice as they get larger, especially females. Or you could try severums, angels, discus, or maybe even a pair of albino tiger oscars.
