Final question, the fall from the tank to the sump n water splashing is rly noisy. Can I have the over PVC actually touch the sump water?
I don't see why not.Final question, the fall from the tank to the sump n water splashing is rly noisy. Can I have the over PVC actually touch the sump water?

What do you mean by air bubbles escaping? I am guessing it is Schedule 40 pvc. That is the most common and it is safe for drinking water, so it is safe for fish. It does not contain any toxins.my concern would b air bubbles/escaping
The bacteria on the K1 won't be killed, why do you say that? If the K1 is moved over to new socks it won't dry out. I see nothing wrong with this plan.Yeah i guess so, but every time you clean your mechanical filter, that bacteria gets killed, and it takes 6 week or so for that bacteria to establish and start really doing anything. You also do not want bacteria colonizing your mechanical filter. The bacteria is most efficient and effective if it is all in one place and when bacteria grows on the k1, bacteria dies in the ceramic media and created extra ammonia. Also, using k1 as mechanical filtration traps debris and that debris later breaks down and creates ammonia. The purpose of mechanical filtration is to catch debris so you can remove the debris before it breaks down and the k1 traps the debris and is then very hard to clean out, and while you are cleaning it out, all the bacteria gets killed off. The sole purpose of k1 is to trap biofilm. That is what it was designed for.
I was going to suggest this! that's what I do, I don't use socks but I have plastic crates/buckets under my sump drains and put ac110 sponges under the water to dampen the sound.NVM, removing the K1 n putting some aquaclear 110 foams inside the socks to dampen the noise.
