Straws are to smooth to allow much adhesion. K1 is fairly rough. At the very least, buy some knockoff K1

They make knockoff ones? I was thinking about getting k1 I have a part of my sump I can make into a fluidized bed but I think my wife wouldn't like the noise lol

You can find it on eBay. I've never seen it in person so I can't vouch for it.

Oh nice I probably will look into it for my smaller tanks to incorporate inside the tank. I already have sponge filters. I'll probably get the real deal stuff I won't be getting a lot of it 1 gallon for 10$ is more than enough for my application

It's not for my sump it's for my other smaller fry tanks lol for my sump I think I would need around 20 gallons in the area I would want it.

Something like this so barely any k1 in there

You have too much media in the bottle, it looks like. The media should be allowed to tumble.
