k1 or al***rog

hi guys i am putting a 40 gal sump on my 260 gal tank it will have a filter sock to begin and the main media chamber is 28x15x12 inches i was wondering what you think would be a better media either al***rog or k1???

I may be wrong, but I was under the impression that K1 is more effective in a fluidized use (such as a moving bed) as opposed to a static use (as in a sump).

This is way i prefer hel-x and yes u can mix them but way mix them if u can use only one

The reason I was thinking of mixing them is that hel x is more expensive. The area I have for media is around 85l and from what I've read you can fill it 40%/60% with media I was thinking of starting with 25l of k1 and as it matures buy hel x in 5l goes and slowly add them until I have 50l worth of media? Would this work?
