I'm using a Kaldnes type, bought on eBay, not sure if it's real or a knock off, but it's been working ok. I watched the video and the thought of breakage came into my head. It's thin plastic, and it does age a bit. I wonder if the speed of flow in the tank could be high enough the pieces are chipping off each other as they collide in the high flow. It's not exactly likely, but over time, being hit on the same edges over and over again, I could see it wearing some pieces down. I also noticed you have mixed in other media too, larger bio balls. These are heavier and sturdier, hitting the smaller kaldnes harder as they blow by. Last, and I'm not sure if this is as bad as it could be, but it looks like the kaldnes is blowing into the glass too. It could be quite a distance, but the flow looks high enough, maybe that could change?
I'm using mine in a sump on strictly a water flow basis. The water comes over one section and down into to kaldnes compartment. I have gutter foam at the bottom where the water exits. The level in that section is high, and the flow makes the kaldnes turn over with the water flowing through. Really low impact overall, but I did have some small bio balls in there at one point and noticed an increase in noise as they cycled about.
Just opening the door that 5 years of wear and tear in a high flow environment may have worn some out.
