Kaleeko the Mbu Puffer Fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Oh he's just adorable!! He's so happy! I finally broke down a few weeks ago, and rescued a itty bitty little puffer. He was in a tank of GSP's, though he looks nothing like them, and was getting the crap beat out of him. Upon closer inspection he only has one eye. I had to have him. :D Puffy my last puffer was not active whatsoever, and this little guy is the complete opposite. I missed Puffy so much, that I didn't want another puffer, but how could I let him get beat up, ya know?? LOL thats my justification anyhow.

Has Kaleeko ever eaten any of his tank mates? Besides the intended ones of course.

Good for you! I've never actually seen a puff with one eye! Glad you saved him! :D :D :D

As for eating any of his tank mates - no, he hasn't he kind of just ignores them. He's never bitten anyone either. He's just a happy go lucky kinda guy lol. We still keep an eye on him though because you never know as puffers age!!!

Thats cool. He really does have that happy go lucky persona. His markings are really neat too :)

Haha actually, he is the one who got the mbu first, and he started the fish hobby. Once I seen the mbu I fell in love with the little guy, and the hobby. I then bought him the tank for one of our anniversary's, so it is pretty much technically all his, but he says its mine too. lol He likes planted tanks, but we're both unsure of how to do a planted tank. For my congo tank we're going to add a lot more decor, and for Kaleeko's final tank he will have much more decor. As for this tank it is just temporary, I want to get a fahaka once we move the pbass into a 230gallon and kaleeko into a larger tank after that. lol Lots of fun!

Me with my history of being far from an aquatic green thumb means Anubias (i think thats how you spell it) are my best friend plant wise... so i would recommend something along those lines with some nice driftwood... maybe a rock as well to mix it up with a sand bottom and bam your done... no special care or lighting needed really...

Thanks Mamapuff! I found his colouring was a lot darker with the black gravel, but he seems a lot happier with the sand. So as long as he's happy, I'm happy!!

Thanks for the tip Fat homer (haha just have to laugh since I have a little Homer figurine on my desk at work that my bf gave me lol)

We were thinking of trying something where it was half sand, and half rock, with some plants and driftwood not too sure there's so many ideas out there! Definitely try some low maintenece plants though since he doesn't bury himself or anything.

When I woke up this morning and turned on the lights he had some sand on his head, it was so cute!

^ Yeah, i'm definitely a low maintenance kinda guy when it comes to aquatic plants... especially since i can't seem to keep them alive... but with anubias, and i think they are called sword tails i've had a bit more luck... needless to say the DW and Rocks require next to no maintenance, maybe the rocks need a scrub once in a while but thats about it...

for sure, we just rinse the rocks in our tank every now and then only really if we can see that they're dirty otherwise just leave it be. I see that you have a congo, how do you have their tank decorated???
