This whole arguement/opinionated answers is all really jus alot of talk IMO. Rap has drastically changed along with every other form of music. I am very diverse with music and love all types besides country, opera, and etc......I like certain rap, big, tupac, bone, nas, some jay z, big pun, ogc, heltah skeltah, wu tang, etc.....rock/alternative, nirvana, foo fighters, 211, third eye blind, three doors down, linkin park, korn, some limp bizkit, and etc......and alot of others....im 24 and no specific music genre is what it used to be IMO. It seems like people go so HARD on rap because its become FLASHY which it has but thas what THE FANS WANT NOWADAYS....some artists may really swing this way, I belive others do it b/c thats where the money is.....dont FLAME it unless you are in their shoes....ARE U GOING TO RISK DOING AN ALBUM YOU ARE IN LOVE WITH BUT SELLS NOTHING....cmon now...I mean music has gone downhill IMO....thas why I listen to the stuff I like.....its as simple as that....nothing to get annoyed or angry about...no one is gonna force u to listen to what u dont wanna hear....jus my .02......

so you're saying they should sell them selves out instead to their fans and critiques by altering the way they play/sing/dance or what ever they do? I think these artists should play what they believe, I'm sure if they no one likes them anymore they're still multimillionaires who can live of their earnings. the lowest thing on earth is selling yourself out to your fans or who ever. to be honest, if they were your fans they would still be loyal and would not care if it was not the same as 'music' this day.

for the record I didn't vote because I'm apathetic towards Kanye, I haven't heard him for months, I don't watch TV and don't listen to the radio. Only way I get info on 'music gossip' is over hearing conversations by 'gangstaa' kids at school.

Sell themselves out???? IMO this is the music industry today!!! It is about money,,,not playing,or writing,or creating what you believe...
I have to agree with Sevendreamz all the way. It's not like a decade or two back where everyone was talented(IE:playing their own instruments, writing their own songs, doing what they believed not giving a s@#t about what other people thought of it), not just a decent singer having ya music written and played for you to make a buck!!!
Just my opinion,,,,no offence to anyone

lol his rant was great. i cant believe he tries to use the race card at about 50 secs like MTV wont give him the award because he black. that sealed the whiney vote. i cant stand it when black people (or any ethnic background for that matter) use their race to try and get what they want when people from the same ethnic backgrounds have had to fight for simple equality and they go trying to use it to win a silly award. positive discrimination at its worst.
that rant is pathetic, funny as hell but pathetic.

Whinny - Yes
Pop - Yes
Rap - No

Chicago - Very Unfortunate

As much as it pains me, I have to give a slight nod to him. Solely on his birthplace, nothing to do w/talent. Fall out boy, more Chitown natives, thats another story.

Literally the ONLY thing Ive ever heard from Kanye West's mouth is, "George Bush hates black people."

Fortunately my ears have been free of the garbage that spews from his ignorant and tiny little mind ever since!

its called a record label... any artist signed by one does it.. at some point.
dont you always hear people saying, 'man i loved this band until they went mainstream...'?
they do what they are told by who pays them... until they get big enough they can do it on their own....

for my two cents.... love his music.. hes a ******* brat.
