Kayak fishing is alot of fun I got into last year... I would definitly suggest getting a sit on top yak and rigging some rod holders on it. Trolling is also alot of fun in a yak

Actually I use a canoe, a 14' sportspal, it's only 42 lbs. I sit in the middle and use a kayak paddle. I love it. Great for getting to those lakes no one with a boat can get to. I've had a lot of luck on these type of lakes cause of the lack of fishing pressure. I recommend you get one.

thanks for the replies guys! I'm really hoping to get a Hobie for next summer, all the loading tags are sold for this summer at the place I fish. The more I look at these kayaks, the more I want one, haha!

I've done alot of kayak fishing on the bigger lakes around Saskatchewan Canada, i havent had a problem with tipping yet and i hope to never haha. the one thing i find to be a pain and only pain with the kayak is landing your catch, i mainly catch Northern Pike and they fight like nuts, sometimes i gotta drag them to the top with one hand on rod and other on the net, biggest i've caught was a 10pound northern pike. my favorite part of kayak fishing is, you can get some good speed on them, they are easy to load and transport, and you can fish in very shallow water, and creeks thats boats cant get to.

few tips: 1 Only bring a small tackle holder with your favorite lures. makes it easy to find your lures and not loose all of your tackle box if you tip.

2 get a small trout net to keep on the kayak cause it can be sometimes hard to grab fish with your hands (sometimes due to size, or stuborness)

3 dont be afraid to get a bit wet cause you will splash yourself!

I have an advanced elements inflatable kayak (all my cars are 2 seater sports cars so no hard boat for me) and fishing off it is a blast!

I've been kayak fishing for years. Unlike most people I use a sit in yak but I've been looking for a good deal on a sit on top. Once you get used to it you wont have any problem flipping it, some people can even stand up in their kayaks. If you are fishing big reserviors with a lot of bass boats and ski boats you need o be careful. You are so low to the water it canbe hard for them to see you. I mostly fish ponds and small lakes where gas powered motors are illegal.
