surfing will change your life if you give it your all.Be brave and you can realy conqure some fears and end up stronger each time.As far as the yak you posted i want one more like the longer ones for speed and further travel.Wide enough but long enough too.Something that cuts right through the waves yet still stable enough for exploring.

I like it allot , but don't think I would pick it for touring in the open water. The sit on tops will get ya wet . You can actually cruse right along in them ... Has gear storage.
Your probably looking for an enclosed sit in type... I had one. But found that the sit on top was better for creeks , bays and ponds .. Even the ocean..
I probably will get another sit in . Would be fun to plan a trip around the cape here .. For that the enclosed or sit in would be better....
Here is some ideas on rigging up an ocean or sit on kayak for fishing ..

yeah more like that one,im 6 foot 2 and i would of course need one to fit my size somewhat,also 240 pounds.Im in great shape but that would sure be a good excercize to build your arms for surfing and such.Downeast;1487234; said:

My white water kayak is good for going with the flow or calm water , its only 9 feet long and can store a days worth of goods. But try and go against the current and its all heck.. No tracking and if ya do flip less you up right with an eskimo roll you are the proud owner of about 80 gallons of water... That you now have to get to shore to drain it or have a pump handy to start the bail.. Thats with all the sit ins....... Plus the sit ins are hard to get in and out of and much. much less stable... Flip real easy..
Most of my canoing is done in small to large creeks and rivers with slow to moderate current. I was looking into getting an Old Towne Otter or something similar. There is a state park near my house that has a few Kayak demos through the summer where you can test out a bunch of different models. I'm definitely going to check it out this year before making a purchase.
My wife and I each have an Old Town Loon 138. The are a good, all purpose kayak. We do most of our kayaking on a large river, local lakes, and near the ocean shore. Lots of fun. I really like going into shallow areas where you generally can't go with a boat. Great to fish out of too.
