Keep cats indoors!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This is my biggest pet pet peeve! Cats do not belong running the streets or fields or woods. They kill indiscriminately. I have a cat and love him to death but he stays inside. Dogs also do not belong outside of your property. I currently own 3 and also love them to death but they stay in the yard. Our youngest just a year has taken to chasing the rabbits and squirrels in our yard. My neighbor said something to me about it and I kinda said yeah she needs to learn to leave them be. He said yeah if she doesnt you are going to have to put her down..... I was like WHAT! I will decide what needs to be done if she catches and kills something not you sir! Its my dog and my yard I dont like the idea of her hurting something other then something threatening my wife house or self either but I will decide. Meanwhile he has an out door cat.....
Ohhhh Boy! Me and that neighbor would have been going back and forth after he said that!

Amen to that! Your neighbour sounds like a douche nozzle..

I have four cats (yes, I know that's a lot of cats) and they don't roam free, never have. They're not stuck inside all day every day though, they have a pen that they go in when its not raining. The pen comes off a window so they go out the window into the pen. They can't get out of the pen into the yard so the wildlife is safe but they can still feel the grass on their paws and the breeze in their fur. My eldest turns 10 this year and my youngest turns 3.
The younger one has never known a time where she didn't have a pen to play in, and the older ones have almost always had a pen with the exception of a few years back (2014) when we moved house and couldn't bring their old pen so my ex had to make them a new one and they were pen-less for a bit over a year.

The fact that they have a pen is what annoyed me when pigeon guy threatened to shoot them. Its like "dude, they can't get to your stupid birds so why are you worried? You didn't even know I had cats until you seen them in the pen! Your birds are more likely to destroy my property than my cats are yours so shut your pie hole!"

I think all pets should be confined to the property of whoever is responsible for them, there are soooo many good reasons to do it and it isn't really that hard yet I know so many idiots who let their pets roam the streets.. :(

He knew he struck a chord and just shut his trap. She get along with the other two dogs and the two we just recently lost a couple months apart( old age). Originally it was 2 dogs a amstaff and a boxer. 3 years ago a cavalier king charles spaniel came home with my wife. As the two got older about a year ago we got a pitie pup. Actually 2 as fosters we kept the female. About 6 months ago we lost our amstaff. And a 9 year old bull dog showed up shes a good dog that didnt need to be put down so she came home with my wife. About 3 weeks ago we lost our boxer. All the time this sweet but rambunctious pitie has been living with this randomness and a cat. Never has she done anything other then love on all the others...well not on purpose shes a little bigger then she thinks she is atm. But she trys to be careful with the smaller animals.
So hes known our view and how our other animals behave so he has nothing to worry about. We will not tolerate any of our animals not behaving exactly as expected and they pretty much all concur. My wife and most of our friends are in the veterinary /animal field so we are good judges of animal personalities.

Here it's a losing battle trying to get people to keep their cats inside. Most thing it's cruel not to let them roam.

Mine we spent thousands fencing i a courtyard for them that they can't climb out of.

Thats sounds like a great thing to have! Sorry your neighbor sounds like a bigger douchnozzle then mine. Mine is just getting old hes like 85 now. He really liked our amstaff but I guess he didnt realize she was a pitbull type also... He knows the newer one is a full pit so maybe that worries him a little. He didnt like the boxer much because hed always try to reach over the fence and the boxer would snap at him. Id constantly tell him to not reach over the fence thats what boxers do they guard and area. If he came over in the house or backyard with me the boxer would bring him toys. It was simply this.. my wife didnt say dont snap so he wouldnt allow the over the fence hands or entery of the yard/house without us present.

My neighbor's dog has come into my yard and killed our ducks a few times. It doesn't eat- it just kills and discards the body. It once even dragged the girl who was walking it onto the yard and killed a duck while on a leash. The girl was quite shook up.

Thats a problem. People need to be responsible for their animals and their animals actions.

Good Lord......it's best that I leave it at that.

He was a jerk lol but unlike your neighbour this guy is maybe 45 at the oldest? Not old enough to be a grumpy old man anyway. I don't live there anymore though, but my cats are still there with my ex.

My mum has a purebred red nose pitty male and a female pitty/rottie mix and people avoid her like the plague when she walks them. Neither of them have ever bitten anyone (purebred is over 10) and both are friendly with other dogs and even cats but peoples assume they're monsters.
When mum had her male Bandit fixed she brought him inside and the cat didn't like him, she attacked him and he "oiked" and ran and hid under mums bed because he's a sook haha

There should be a thread on here somewhere titled "meet kittiees cats" that documents the build of their new pen. It wasn't that hard to do and didn't cost us that much, most expensive thing to buy was the aviary wire at $80aud (iirc) for a roll (don't remember how big it was) but we didn't even use the full roll and have enough left over that if the pen gets damaged for whatever reason we can patch it up. Should have enough left to cover a full side again, maybe a little more.
Its completely detachable because its in a rental property, when my ex moves out all he has to do is take the screen off the window and tada! It'll be like the pen was never there. Its fixed to a frame where a fly screen would go. :D

I'd recommend it for anyone who has indoor cats, mine love theirs. :)

I have always kept indoor cats....My one exception was we had a Bengal years back. It was F2 and had a wild side. When locked up in house he licked off his fur until bleeding and kept licking.....We had to let him out. He did great for many years but eventually was hit by a car on my super quiet street. I have to say he always hunted vermin. Mice, moles, shrews and chipmunks. Since he passed my yard is overrun with moles. Yes cats kill birds. They also kill far more rats, mice and other disease carrying vermin so they are valuable as well..
