Keep Internal Filter or Scrap for Updated Filtration?

Oscar,

First and foremost if it is a DAS tank the back is painted glass. It is NOT MDF or anything like that. I found a chip in mine later on that confirmed it was glass.

Second, pics if you can provide them would help with my advice. Without those I would caution that my advice might be wrong.

That being said, if you have the same type tank the box should simply be siliconed into place at that top seam you are saying appears glued and a simple line or swirl of silicone halfway down the box and a line at the very base against the back seam. You should be able to cut the top with a simple utility razor and either wedge your hand in and pull the box off or you'll need some sort of plastic bar or drywall mud spatula to lever off the box and then it should peel away from the bottom seam. Don't worry about breaking it as it will most definitely crack.

As for the bulkheads I wont be able to speak to that as my tank was a freshwater planted and to answer your later question it will probably be returning to that. I am looking at DAS' BioBoxes to test them out and see what I can do with a no filtration set-up.

That last part goes to your drilling question. I have not drilled it but plan on doing the no filtration set-up until I move to a larger home next year. At that point if the planted only filtration didn't pan out I plan to drill it probably for a ThreeHole from GlassHoles.com at that time unless I find somewhere else to supply the parts.

If you have anything else to ask please let me know. I'll do my best. As I said if you can upload pics I might be able to give you better advice.
