One of the mistakes I see often among people who are just starting out with loaches is keeping them in water suitable for many tropical fish as far as temperature. While many cichlids and other fish are fine at a temperature of 76-80 deg F, Clown Loaches are particularily susceptible to ich. The Ich parasite life cycle slows down as water temperatures rise. A higher ambient temperature in the tank helps prevent ich outbreaks. Clown Loaches in their native habitat live in water that varies between 78 deg F and 86 Deg F. I like to keep my tanks between 82-86 deg F. This has resulted in a very low frequency of Ich outbreaks for me and has definitely been a contributing factor to a very low death rate. I recommend this practice to anyone keeping loaches, as long as the other fish can deal with it.

what would that be in Celsius, Wurm? 30º?

The conversions function above will also do that for you.

100% truth and one of my first hard lessons learned! Worst part is that ich loves scaleless loach flesh. Must work fast and furious to stop the cycle.
