im having a hard time deciding if i want to split up my 2 armatus. i have them both in a 250 gal w a silver aro. the 2 armatus are always fighting w eachother but dont fight w the aro.

im getting pretty sick of the armatus always having torn up scales, messed up eyes, etc

i guess my question is: should i just split them up or is it worth the headache/risk to keep them together?

I would never take the chance of any Armatus in existance to be killed or beaten up, Eventually they are going to get sick of each others company and are going to beat up on each other until one is dead. Plus if you split them up you will not constantly have your blood pressure off the walls wondering if they are killing each other. I would not risk it but that's just me, I would also not risk a serious injury such as a fang in the eye or one getting impaled. Thats just my opinion but it's up to you on your decision. I hope the best for you man! I hope whatever you choose to do it works out for you.

thanks for the reply

my mission was to keep the 2 of them together in my 450 gal but i hate to add them both to the big tank and have alot of fighting...

Yeah I just don't think its worth the hassle, But you have much more experience with Armatus than I do since I've never kept one I'm just telling you what I've heard from other people's experiences. You could try it and see what happens but its all up to you.

May not fight much in the 450, since there's more room for each of them. You just have to try it out and observe them. Calisucks used to have two in a 450gal with few bichirs without any problem.

i have 4 in a 210 gallon.. there are some aggression but not constant.. i guess i followed keeping datnoid rule.. dont have 2 have at least 3 to spread aggression... they were kept in the 75 g for 8 mnths but now more room better resultls... the IT dat is the ruler of the tank.. planning on placing jardini and i'll see how that ruins the peace...

Sometimes it all boils down to sex. 2 Males confined in what is to them a small body of water. They may always go at it trying to define alpha status. So little is known about their actual wild behavior or even what they perseve as their territories. It's quite possible these fish shoal as juvi's and become solitary hunters as adults both male and female. One things for sure tho they know where the juvi's collect to grow out so there are breeding grounds and those grounds are seasonal.

i believed i a saw a video with adult or sub-adult armatus shoal.. i'm talking 50 to 100.. but ofcourse in a very large tank... and they were always together like silver dollars.. and my armatus are always together in my 200 g... i don't know but i guess experiment and see wat works best...

They will tend to take out the weakest one out of a single shoal..I lost oen because of it.

I now have 2, about 10"....in almost a year, I have only experienced one accidental bite that didn't leave any permanent damage. I may just got lucky at that time...

I do feed them everyday and it think that reduce the agression a bit.

I too have been contemplating on selling one or putting them on 2 spearate tank..
