Hey everyone, recently I have developed an intrest in the Japanese carp also known as the koi fish. I have recently had some bad life expirences in my personal life that are causingme great stress and countless sleepless nights waking up in cold sweats. Iv done some research and apparently the Karasu (means crow in english) brings the best of luck to its owner. Has anyone successfully added a small koi to their aquarium? I know they can reaxh 3 feet in captivty, this is not an issue as when the time comes to move it, a good friend of mine has a massive koi pond in their backyard. Does anyone have any tips/comments or concerns about this? Normally im not into the superstition of luck or karma, but at this point im willing to try anything to get a good nights sleep again, please dont sugest sleeping pills as I refuse to take them. My family doctor says its most likely a cause of stress with an over-active mind. Any and all thoughts/comments are welcome.
I would confirm with your friend to make sure he is willing to take the fish when it outgrows your tank. I would say you would maybe have 1 year before the koi gets too large (assuming you buy a 2" or 3" baby). If you are the type that gets attached to your pets and think you might have a tough time giving him up to your friend with a pond, I would avoid koi all-together. They grow far too large for even the biggest aquariums...they really belong in large ponds. I'm the guy that had the big tank with goldfish...I never bought koi because of some of the monster Koi I've seen at a few local shops (3'+ and thick). In regards to your sleep issues, have you tried exercise? I know that on nights where I have an intense workout at the gym, my head hits the pillow and I sleep like a baby.
